About us

You can only improve what you measure

One simple test, runnable from any browser, that produces numbers anyone can understand — and an honest explanation of what those numbers actually mean.

Who we are

What we do

We are a small independent team of network and web engineers. This site is a free connection speed test: press the button, wait a few seconds, and get back your download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter. The site is operated by Regulad Co., Ltd., from Caugiay, Hanoi, Vietnam.

We built it because most people who are told their internet is “slow” have no way to check, and most tools that can check bury the answer under an install prompt or an account sign-up. There is nothing to install here, nothing to sign up for, and no limit on how often you can test.

The test itself is not a simulation. Real data moves between your browser and our server, and what you see is what actually got through.

  • Measure latency

A burst of small requests goes out and back, giving the lowest ping and the variation between attempts.

  • Measure download

Several streams pull random, incompressible data at once, counting the bytes actually received moment by moment.

  • Measure upload

The browser pushes data back to the server, with progress tracked continuously.

  • Aggregate

The ramp-up is discarded, the steady portion is averaged, and the result is saved to your local history.

Methodology

How we try to keep the number honest

A speed test is easy to make look good and hard to make accurate. These are the choices behind ours.

Incompressible payload

The test data is random bytes. Compression along the route cannot inflate the result, which is a common way for a test to flatter a connection.

Parallel streams

A single connection rarely saturates a modern line. Several run at once, which is what a browser or a video player does in real use.

The ramp-up is discarded

TCP takes a moment to reach full speed. Averaging from the first byte understates a fast line, so the opening window is excluded.

Caching is disabled

Every request is sent with no-store headers. A cached response would produce an impressive number that means nothing.

Ping and jitter are separate

An average latency hides the instability that ruins video calls. We report the variation between attempts as its own figure.

We do not grade your ISP

We report what we measured between your browser and our server. We make no claim about who is responsible for it.

A result is a snapshot of one path at one moment. Wi-Fi, the age of your device, other people in the house and congestion anywhere along the route all move the number. Run a few tests at different times and read the trend rather than any single figure.

How this site is funded

Free to use, paid for by ads

This site is free and has no paid tier. Bandwidth is the main cost of running a speed test — every test we serve moves real data — and that cost is covered by advertising.

Ads are provided by Google and its partners. These vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's My Ad Center, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info. The details are in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Ads never touch the measurement

Ad scripts are loaded outside the test path and are idle while a test is running, so they cannot distort your result.

No advertiser buys an opinion

No internet provider pays us to appear faster, and no advertiser has any influence over what this site says.

Your results are not for sale

We do not sell your test history or hand it to advertisers. It never leaves your browser in the first place.

Support

Frequently asked questions

Your link is shared with other devices at home and with traffic along the whole route. Run a few tests at different times and read the trend rather than any single number.

Wi-Fi, an ageing device or background software is usually the bottleneck. Try testing over a cable and closing anything that is downloading, and you will get a number much closer to what the line can do.

Ping is how long one packet takes to go out and come back. Jitter is how much that time varies between consecutive attempts. Video calls and gaming are far more sensitive to jitter than to average ping.

In your own browser, using localStorage. Clear your browsing data and the history goes with it, and no copy is ever sent to a server.

It depends on your line speed, because each test runs for a fixed duration. The faster the connection, the more data moves in that same window — worth remembering on a metered mobile plan.

It is free, there is no account, and there is no cap on how many times you can run it. Advertising pays for the bandwidth.

We aim to reply within two business days. More ways to reach us, and what to include, are on the contact page.

A result that looks wrong

Tell us the figure you got, what you expected, and whether you were on Wi-Fi or a cable. That is usually enough for us to explain it.

Bugs and browser issues

Include your browser and operating system. Anything that reproduces reliably gets fixed quickly.

Advertising and press

Same address. Please include your deadline if you have one.

Privacy

How your data is handled

Stored on your machine

Your test history lives in the browser's localStorage and is never synced to a server. We cannot see it.

No account, no profile

There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no profile for your tests to be attached to. We do not ask for your name or your email to run a test.

Test payload

What travels during a test is random bytes generated on the spot, carrying nothing about you or your files.

Advertising cookies

Our advertising partners, including Google, set cookies to serve and measure ads. Those cookies are theirs, not ours, and you can turn personalisation off using the links in the funding section above.

Server logs

Like any web server, ours records the requests it receives in order to run the service and stop abuse. These logs are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared.

Nothing is sold

We do not sell or trade your data. If that ever changed, it would be written here first.

This is a summary. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Terms of Use. Questions go to support@regulad.com.
